(extract from an early interview):
Q: Tom, how did you first become interested in recording?
TW: It's very much in the family, both my father & grandfather are musicians & my uncle is a
well-known engineer (Martin Haskell) who was with Decca at the legendary Tollington Park Studios
and then went on to become an award-winning Classical Recording Engineer. So, making & recording
music has been a major part of my life from the beginning!
Q: What do you see as the role of the Producer?
TW: To take how someone THINKS they sound, turn it into how they'd LIKE to sound and then ADD
ideas that make them sound UNIQUE.
Q: Any Producer heros?
TW: It has to be George Martin (The Beatles). He's the perfect example of a creative producer who
could cross all musical & recording genres & is equally at home working with large numbers of
musicians & written orchestrations as he is with raw untrained talent. I'm a trained musician so
I really appreciate how his input really helped them become UNIQUE.
Q: You write, play instruments and produce. Which is most important to you?
TW: What I like best is taking the germ of an idea from a client & giving them back a composition
or recording that is well beyond their expectations. In other words, I prefer working either with
or for someone else, rather than just for myself.
